College Prep for All to Be Implemented

14 Jun College Prep for All to Be Implemented

On May 22, the Los Angeles Unified School District agreed to implement a college-prep resolution that parents and students from South and East Los Angeles had fought hard for and won more than seven years ago. In 2005 Community Coalition and its allies won a campaign to make A-G (college prep) courses the standard high school curriculum in LAUSD to ensure all students were prepared and eligible for higher education. A-G courses are required for admission to California’s four-year colleges and universities. Several members of the school board had sought to delay the implementation mandated for 2012. Fortunately, parents, students and community organizations that had earlier fought to win A-G raised their voices again, and the board voted four to three in favor of the implementation plan.
