Karren is a graduate of UCLA and Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a former special education teacher and law school graduate from Southwestern School of Law. Karren has worked as an advocate for youth with Public Counsel’s Juvenile Court Intervention and Advocacy Project; Southwestern School of Law’s Children’s Rights Clinic; the LA County Public Defenders’ Juvenile Division and the Los Angeles Children’s Law Center. Karren has supported criminal defense attorneys in the defense of youth and adults in serious felony cases. Currently, Karren organizes social service providers to increase access to re-entry services in South Los Angeles and influence criminal justice policy.
