culture cures 2024

Culture Cures is an seven-day community activation inviting LA-residents to heal and envision an equitable future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

About This Event
Culture Cures, an Homage to Home is a multifaceted exhibit experience that pays homage to the experience of migrants and immigrants that call LA Home. Our series this year will explore how language and migrant traditions help shape the diversity, originality and culture of South LA and the wider LA region as we know it. Through the production of a cultural history altar, a poetry/storytelling night and a youth summit, Homage to Home will provide multiple opportunities to learn about the experiences of LA residents and how they find or make their sense of home through cultural practices, stories, memories and traditions. Home is where culture is!

Program Line-Up & Descriptions

Grand Opening - Homage to Home : Cultural History Altar
May 9th, 6:00pm-8:30pm
Community Coalition

About This Event
By curating a dedicated space, a type of “collective home”, our cultural history altar invites our community to become purveyors of culture by sharing important artifacts from their own home to create a tapestry of shared history and connection. We invited members from our community who speak different languages and dialects, and who come from various migrant/immigrant experiences to share their history through artifacts that have meaning to their lived experiences. We invite you to come and share some time with us in our collective home.
