Work That Matters.

At Community Coalition, we maximize our impact by building an intersectional network of organizers, coalitions, community members, and student activists.

We have produced three generations of youth and adult leaders that have been successful at:

  • Measuring the impact of inequalities in underserved communities
  • Identifying gaps in support for Black and Brown youth and their families

  • Collecting data to track the overall disparities of underserved communities throughout Los Angeles
  • Developing solutions to resolve the inequalities that exist in city, county, and state policies, education, land use, and economic development.

Community Coalition is a grassroots organization comprised of youth and adult residents of South Los Angeles, student activists, and community organizers. We collaborate to support and elevate the voices of Black, Brown, Indigenous, and people of color. CoCo works on the frontlines of social change with a mission to dismantle systemic barriers that keep our communities from thriving.

  • We are citizens of the city of Los Angeles who advocate and strive for equity.
  • We are change agents who educate, elevate, and organize community members to change the conditions and policies that are at the root of disinvestment and disenfranchisement.
  • We are power builders who help our community members transform.

CoCo focuses on creating sustainable change that goes beyond short-term solutions. By involving thousands of community members in decision-making processes, our work ensures that solutions are rooted in the needs and aspirations of the community. This approach leads to more effective and long-lasting change that can withstand challenges and continue to benefit the community in the future.

We Advocate for Equal
Access to Opportunity

Long-term societal transformation is our priority. Our focus areas of activism inspire us to:

  • Cultivate and develop community leaders
  • Train and mobilize youth and adults to build thriving communities
  • Transform schools
  • Shape public policy
  • Create healthy initiatives that increase the longevity of lives for Black and Brown residents

Our goal is to upend the systemic racism that plagues Black and Brown communities in Los Angeles. As a powerful united voice, CoCo South LA is dedicated to using our vast platform to elevate local organizing efforts and advance racial and economic justice initiatives.

About Us

Our strong dedication to transformative change is at the foundation of our organization, which took place over thirty years ago amid the peak of the crack cocaine epidemic in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Community Coalition, which was purposefully established as a Black/Brown group, is aware of the strength of uniting individuals and working as a coalition to create change.

We know that those closest to the issues are the ones who are also closest to the solutions. Community organizing empowers individuals to take control of their own lives and destinies. It provides a platform for people to develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and become active participants in shaping their communities.
