Major Community Victories Secured!
As this administration continues to gut the Department of Education, many leaders and institutions went silent. Not us though, we stood up—and we won. Through our collective organizing and unwavering pressure, we pushed LAUSD to make major investments in support of Black, Undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students!
–$50 MILLION for BSAP next year, making yearly investments to BSAP at $175 Million!
— $5 MILLION for Dream Centers!
–$2 MILLION for LGBTQ+ resources and supports!
This is what happens when students, families, and community fight together!! Our coalition, the Police-Free LAUSD, is a group of organizing organizations in Los Angeles committed to ensuring that Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSDt) schools are safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students–free from punitive measures that disproportionately exclude students from receiving the education they deserve. Under binding federal and state civil rights laws, school districts have an affirmative obligation to combat bias, remedy discrimination and harm, as well as ensure an equal educational opportunity for all students.
