“Growing up in South LA, I was often told that my goal should be to ‘make it out up of the hood’. But one day a resident in my community asked me ‘how can we improve our community when all the people who care about it leave.’ At that moment I realized that my goal should not be to leave, but to reinvest and empower my community.
Ansley Jean-Jacques is originally from Haiti. He was raised by a single mother who taught him the value and importance of education. Inspired by his family, he worked hard and received a football scholarship that provided him the opportunity to achieve his educational aspirations. Ansley graduated from Central Washington University with a B.A. in Sociology. After graduating, he kept his promise of returning home to apply the knowledge and skills he learned towards improving his community.
