“Community Coalition invested in me and gave me the opportunity to fight the injustices that have plagued our communities for far too long. I know our communities need positive, sustainable change, and I am now able to be the change I want to see.”
Gilbert Johnson grew up in South LA and is a graduate of Crenshaw High School. He began working with Community Coalition in 2009 as an outreach worker for the Civic Engagement Program. That year marked the last time he was incarcerated. He came out knowing it was time to stand up for equity and justice. He now leads the Civic Engagement Program, which educates and informs thousands of voters on ballot measures, initiatives and propositions that positively affect our communities. Gilbert is a married father with three boys.
